Step by Step Installation Method
Below we will list each step in hurricane panel installation and putting them up for protection.
- First you want to drill starter holes in the H-Header and the F-Track.
- Your H-Header should come pre cut to wit your window or other opening.
- Next drill through the pre-drilled hole in the H-Header and keep drilling through the exterior wall as deep as the Tapcon screws are. Some Tapcon screws are longer then others, depending on the level of protection you need.
- Place a level on the H-Header and drill the remaining holes in the exterior wall to line up with the pre-drilled holes in the H-Header.
- Once all holes are drilled, and aligned with holes in the H-Header, screw a Tapcon screw into each hole until all are completed.
- Now you need to line up the F-Track and make sure it is in the same position as the H-Header, but underneath the window.
- Using a level, drill as many holes that are needed in the F-Track, evenly spaced 6 inches apart.
- Once all holes are drilled and F-Track is level, screw Tapcon screws into each hole securely.
- Now you need to slide the mounting screws into the F-Track, which is what the hurricane panels attach to.
- Put the panels in place, and slide the mounting screws in the F-Track, through the hurricane panel holes at the bottom left, and screw the securing wing nut in place on the end of the mounting screw.
- Repeat this for each panel, overlapping each one that is next to each other, too completely secure it shut and enclosed.
There you have it, complete steps for installing and putting up your hurricane panels. Follow them properly and your panels will stay strong and secure in the face of high winds, debris and rain water.
